It is located 38 km from Cairo and is characterized by its low population density and also a lower temperature than Cairo due to its higher elevation above sea level. The city was named after the October War of 1973, like other cities that were named in the same manner, such as (Sadat City - 10th of Ramadan City - Obour City).
